With over 15 years of experience helping our clients with their email strategies, DMi Partners is always looking forward to new trends in the email world. But unlike other agencies, DMi focuses on predicting trends that are too bold for many to take a risk forecasting.
So without further ado, we are rolling out our annual predictions for Email.
- Consumers begin to complain that they are receiving too few unsolicited marketing messages, so the service providers quickly add a ‘Request Spam’ button to the interface to help limit complaints.
- “DMarc” becomes a top 100 baby name for both male and female newborns.
- ISPs roll out an automated consolation response to its users that deploys once they have sent three consecutive emails to a recipient on the same thread without receiving a reply. The brief messages of “Don’t beat yourself up over it” and “They’re probably on vacation somewhere that doesn’t have WiFi” are seen as an attempt to keep morale high from the most prolific service users.
- Popular food delivery services offer customized vanity subject lines for late night transaction emails. Users can swap in subject lines like “Thank you for your donation” in lieu of the traditional “Your cheesesteak is en route” to help cover their tracks the next morning.
- Email communication sees a significant decrease as fax usage skyrockets. Early research has shown that the sound of a fax connection is incredibly soothing to millennials. As an aside, an intern uncovered that ‘fax’ is short for ‘facsimile’ while researching this trend, which seemed worth mentioning.
- Major ISPs to roll out new error messages within their email platforms. Given the success and positive customer feedback of error messages such as “it seems like you forgot to attach a file,” ISPs are experimenting with new error messages. One of the most like to be implemented is: “Hey Dad, you put your entire message in the subject line. Make the subject a few words and then put your message in the actual message body.”
- Service providers will add a ‘Reply Some’ option to their email response choices. The feature will join the current options of ‘Reply’ and ‘Reply All’ and will give users the option of replying to an incomplete assortment of the email recipients which will be randomly chosen by the service provider.
- “Funsubscribe” Buttons will become a thing. DMi doesn’t know for sure what function the button will serve, but we feel pretty strongly that this is on the horizon. Get ready.
