Oh yeah that time we had to call Willie Mays...

One of our longest and strongest partners is the licensed sports apparel business, Mitchell & Ness. Early in our partnership, we developed their ecommerce website and marketed it online. Business was a total slam dunk!

Not long into the relationship, we ran into a big problem. Mitchell & Ness needed to sign new agreements with many of the most popular players in baseball history. Each agreement needed to be struck directly between M&N and the individual retired player or their estate. That meant we couldn’t sell the best and most popular baseball players until these agreements were in place.

So what did DMi do? We ran point (alongside a key asset at M&N) and made the calls to each player; negotiated each deal based on analysis that DMi developed to estimate future sales revenue; and then we got each player signed up.

It was time for us to take off our “marketing hat” and put on our “deal making hat.” That brought us to the moment our founder Pat had to cold call Willie Mays… Would he strike out at the plate or hit a homer? Fortunately, DMiers have always known how to wear different hats well! We got the deal done and have been working with M&N ever since!
