We enjoy fantastic relationships with several not-for-profit organizations, and one service that often brings us together is web design. Philadelphia area Moonstone Preschool was our latest pro bono project—and we looked in some non-traditional areas for ideas.

Each Piece of Artwork on the Site was created by Students

Moonstone Preschool will often impart its curriculum through the visual and performing arts, and as you can imagine, they have plenty of hand-sketched animals and airplanes hanging on their walls.

We decided to cash in on that creativity by incorporating the students’ drawings into our web design.

First, we picked out a handful of sketches that we loved. Then, as we began dropping them on each page of the website, we decided to animate each drawing on the site with parallax and CSS—how better to communicate the fun and engaging atmosphere at Moonstone?

We Designed a Color-Shifting Top Navigation

There are a ton of great Philadelphia web design agencies, so in order to stand out, we created something entirely new.

We’ve all seen top navigations that change colors when you move from page to page, but have you ever seen a top nav. shift color dynamically before your eyes? We hadn’t either.

We Created an Interactive Map of the School

Parents like to know what they’re getting into before scheduling a school visit, so we used a map of the school (drawn by a student, of course) to create an interactive tour.

Visitors to the homepage will see an “Experience Moonstone” virtual tour prompt without even having to scroll—the goal is to increase dwell time and click through rate by answering users’ needs before they can even ask.

Other Website Features: User-friendly CMS, Client Portal, and Responsive Design

Moonstone is an educational non-profit, and we wanted them to be able to operate their new website without agency oversight. To accomplish that goal, we set things up in a popular, user-friendly CMS—it’s easy to edit and manage as needed, and it has a robust support community online.

We also built the new site with a responsive design; parents of students and other website visitors can now get the full website experience on phones, tablets, and every kind of web browser.
